Hinduism has several scriptures as reference texts. They include Vedas, Sastras, Puranas, Itihasas, Smritis and so on. This large set of books has given freedom of worship to the devotees, allowing them to have Vishnu, Siva, or others, as main deities.
One of the great preceptors or Acharyas of Hinduism was Ramanujacharya, who laid stress on “Bhakti” towards Lord Vishnu for Moksha / salvation. The methodology propounded by him is popularly known as “Visistaadvaita”. During the tenure of his long life, he could create a strong group of followers adopting and propagating his theory. This further enhanced the construction of temples of Lord Vishnu everywhere, and more so in southern India.
The booklet “A brief introduction to Ramanujacharya” gives some details of his biography and introduces the main concepts of his theory.
